Kobus Marias

Kobus started his accounting career in M J Minter and Co, a small CA firm in South Africa. He worked for the company for 5 years and then felt the need to grow his management accounting experiences. Kobus then worked with companies in South Africa in the IT, clothing manufacturing, nature conservation and bakery industries.

In 2006 Kobus and his family migrated to New Zealand and he started work in the shop fit out and door hardware industry before joining Gilligan Sheppard auditing team in September 2008.

Kobus's area of expertise are diverse and he wouldn't call himself a specialist in any particular area since he enjoys growing through continued eduction. Kobus's main role at Gilligan Sheppard Ltd is in the Audit department and he finds auditing very rewarding and fast paced. It grows and challenges the individual and offers great opportunities to assist customers in improving and growing their business.

Kobus has been married to Karen for 17 years. They have two lovely children. When it comes to relaxation he is up to anything that gets thrown his way. He loves cycling and has done a couple of mountain bike and road races. As a family they take long walks with the dogs over weekends. Reading and sodoku puzzles are his favourite indoor activities. His favourite time of the day is early morning.
